Map the ownership first
List which team owns technical specifications, approved imagery, translations, regulatory text, and channel requirements. Identify where two systems can overwrite the same value.
Use a difficult product family
Choose related products with shared specifications and different brand names, packages, images, and regional requirements. Require each proposed system to demonstrate those differences.
Keep PIM and DAM responsibilities clear
The PIM evaluation should cover product facts and relationships. The DAM evaluation should cover assets, versions, rights, and reuse. The integration must preserve product-to-asset relationships and update ownership.
Test change propagation
Correct a specification, replace an image, and withdraw an asset. Observe which destinations change, how quickly, who approves, and how failures become visible.
Decide whether replacement is necessary
Before selecting new software, test whether clearer ownership, a repaired connector, or a better data model would address the problem in the current stack.
Build the shortlist
Compare vendors within the same primary category. Carry the required modules, open questions, and representative dataset into every demonstration.
